HANDS ON HABITAT! A Program for Families

This program involves a full day of outdoor activities for family members of all ages. Included in this program:

  • A controlled prairie burn demonstration
  • A food plot planting - Families will be able to watch the food plot grow all summer and learn which animals will use it.
  • An opportunity to build brush piles for bunnies - and learn why this type of cover is ideal for rabbits and other small game animals.
  • A tree planting - Families will learn how to properly plant trees, what wind breaks are and why they are important.
  • An opportunity to try and identify the different animals that call the prairie their home.
  • A presentation by Dubuque County Naturalist Jenny Lawler
  • Activities for preschoolers will also be available.

WHERE:  Ringneck Ridge - approximately 3 miles south of Worthington on Hwy 136

WHEN:  Saturday, April 28, 2007 (Rain Date: Saturday, May 5, 2007)

TIME:  9:00 a.m. Day begins with a discussion on safety and the importance of fire to the prairie ecosystem.

Refreshments will be provided, but you may want to bring your own snacks as well. Due to the physical nature of the activities, please remember to dress appropriately with hiking boots and suitable clothing. Parents will be responsible for their children.
